Grant proposals are a vital tool for securing funding in the nonprofit world. However, writing grants can be daunting and time-consuming. We’ve witnessed this firsthand with the thousands of nonprofit organizations we have worked with over the years. In our 1-1 sessions with each of them, we’ve seen their initial (understandable) struggles to get through the necessary steps and details of each grant.

Luckily, thanks to the latest advancements in artificial intelligence, there are now AI-powered grant writing tools that can help streamline the process and increase the chances of success.

Are you ready to have your mind blown? Let’s dive into some of the top AI-powered grant writing tools out there, including the incredible ChatGPT, Grantable, Nonprofit Operating System, and Fundwriter.AI!

ChatGPT

First up, we have ChatGPT, the AI-powered chatbot that I use the most. I love it. This platform allows you to prompt it as much as you need to get the answers you’re looking for, in the tone, style, and structure you need. Plus, each chat you initiate is automatically saved, so you can build upon previous conversations and what ChatGPT understands about your preferences. It also doesn’t require any prior information or documents to start writing your grant proposal. It’s definitely a team favorite.

Here’s a primer on how to use it:

Start by providing a detailed description of the grant program and its requirements, as well as any specific guidelines or themes that must be addressed. Additionally, provide any background information or research that will be relevant to the proposal, including previous grant awards or the goals and objectives of the organization.

When formulating your prompt, be specific about the scope and objectives of the proposal, and consider including any data or metrics that will support your case for funding. Finally, review ChatGPT’s initial response and provide feedback to refine and improve the proposal as needed. For example, if it provides a broad timeline, you can prompt it to get more specific and provide a month-by-month breakdown of the timeline.

Advantages:

  • Free to use
  • Provides immediate feedback
  • Conversational, which can help you refine and tailor your proposal

Disadvantages:

  • Limited to chat-based conversations, which may not be suitable for all users.
  • No integration with other grant-writing tools or platforms.
  • Only as accurate as the data and algorithms they are based on.

Grantable

Next up, we have Grantable – the AI-powered grant writing assistant that’s about to revolutionize the way you write proposals. This software uses AI writing features to analyze previous grant proposals you upload to the system and helps you select the most relevant content to reuse in your next proposal. As you use Grantable to answer proposal questions, the software becomes much better at answering future questions with accurate, specific, and well-written responses. It’s like having a team of grant-writing experts at your fingertips.

Advantages:

  • Uses AI to analyze and repurpose previous grant proposals.
  • Can help you save time by automatically suggesting relevant content.
  • Intelligent learning means the software becomes more effective over time.

Disadvantages:

  • Paid service after the free trial. $24/month (Pro)
  • Business/Enterprise level tier not developed yet
  • Requires prior grant proposals to be uploaded to the system to be effective.
  • No integration with other grant-writing tools or platforms.

Nonprofit Operating System

Moving on to Nonprofit Operating System – the AI-powered platform that’s not only a game-changer for grant writing but also provides various tools to help nonprofits streamline their operations. With more than 30 customizable writing prompts available, you can tailor your proposal to your specific needs. Plus, by entering your nonprofit type, the proprietary AI engine creates the first draft of the proposal in seconds. This is one of the many benefits of using this operating system.

Advantages:

  • Provides a range of nonprofit-specific tools in addition to grant writing.
  • Customizable prompts can help users tailor their proposals to their specific needs.
  • Provides a first draft of the proposal in seconds.

Disadvantages:

  • Not dedicated solely to grant writing.
  • Limited AI capabilities compared to other grant-writing software.

Fundwriter.AI

Lastly, Fundwriter.AI can take your grant proposal to the next level. This software uses artificial intelligence to write 10x faster than a human grant writer, while still producing high-quality content. Plus, with customizable templates and a smart content library that uses AI to analyze previous grant proposals, you can structure your proposal effectively and find the most relevant content to use.

Advantages:

  • Can save time and effort by producing high-quality grant proposals quickly.
  • Uses AI to help users find relevant content from previous proposals.
  • Customizable templates can help users structure their proposals effectively.

Disadvantages:

  • Paid service with pricing plans based on usage.
  • Limited to grant proposal writing and may not be suitable for other nonprofit writing needs.
  • No integration with other grant-writing tools or platforms.

AI Training

Ultimately, each AI-powered grant-writing software has its unique features, advantages, and disadvantages yet understanding how to effectively utilize these features and navigate the nuances of each software requires experience and expertise. ChatGPT and Grantable are conversational and AI-based, respectively, while Nonprofit Operating System and Fundwriter.AI use writing prompts, AI engines, and content libraries. Although, it still takes a lot of strategy and experience to produce high-quality grants it is undeniable that AI-powered grant-writing software can help the process.

Writing a successful grant proposal still requires a deep understanding of the nonprofit organization, its mission, and the funding opportunities available. Therefore, while AI-powered grant writing tools can be useful, they are not a substitute for the expertise and strategic thinking of an experienced grant writer. That’s why we’ve put together an AI training course called: Use AI to Write a Grant in Just 1 Hour. This course will not only teach you how to effectively use AI-powered grant-writing software to your benefit but also to heighten the productivity of your grant-writing process.
